Exploring Skiathos
It's easy to get around Skiathos by bus - approximately every 20 minutes you can catch a bus service running the length of the island and Villa Coco is close to Bus stop 11. The service runs from early morning till after midnight. Of course some attractions on the island are not accessible by public transport, in which case you may want to rent a car or a scooter for some of your stay. There are many companies renting vehicles and apart from high season (August) it isn't neccesary to pre-book.
No doubt the biggest attraction of Skiathos are the beaches and beautiful warm water. Skiathos has over 60 beaches, mostly with fine, white sand and a few with round, washed pebbles. Some are more secluded and quiet, some only accessible by boat, while others offer exciting water sports eg. waterskiing, snorkelling, para sailing and there may even be jetskis or boats for hire. Most beaches have umbrellas and loungers for hire and a taverna offering meals and refreshments.
Calla and Janelle, at Villa Coco, would be more than happy to advise whether you'd like to walk along the coastline or catch a boat to remote beaches and other islands. There are "round the islands" boat trips that can take you to other islands: Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros and a nearby marine park (full day trips). Together with Skiathos, these islands form the cluster called the "Sporades" islands.
We have hiking maps available should you wish to explore on foot - wonderful forested countryside offers lovely walks for the energetic! Also recommended are the two monasteries and a cathedral that are open to visitors and well worth visiting.
Skiathos town has a maze of little streets filled with clothing and jewellery shops, arts and crafts stores, as well as numerous restaurants, bars and coffee shops. These could take days to explore... And for those who enjoy nightlife, there are many bars and nightclubs offering music, dancing and entertainment into the wee hours.
